PuTTY doesn\u2019t natively support the private key format (.pem) which is generated by Amazon EC2. PuTTY has software called PuTTYgen, which can convert keys to the required PuTTY format (.ppk). You have to convert your private key into this format (.ppk) before connecting to your instance using PuTTY, .ppk file long-form is PuTTY private Key file and it is used to store the private file.<br \/>\n2.\u00a0 Click Load. By default, PuTTYgen displays you only files with the extension .<strong>ppk<\/strong> (PuTTY Private Key) file. To locate your .<strong>pem<\/strong> (Privacy Enhanced Mail) file, select the option to display files of all types.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2025\" src=\"https:\/\/prwatech.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/aw14.jpg\" alt=\"Steps To Launch An Amazon EC2 Instance\" width=\"850\" height=\"815\" srcset=\"https:\/\/prwatech.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/aw14.jpg 517w, https:\/\/prwatech.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/aw14-300x288.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>3. <span style=\"color: #000000;\">Select the <strong>.pem<\/strong> file for the key-value pair that you specified when you launch your instance, and then click on Open. Click on OK to dismiss the confirmation dialog box.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">4. Click to save the private key to save the key in the format that PuTTY can use. PuTTYgen displays a warning about saving the key without a passphrase. Click Yes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">5. Specify the same name for the key that you used for the key pair (for example, prwatech1-key-pair). PuTTY can automatically add . PPK file extension then key pair for connecting instance.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Steps To Connect EC2 instance using SSH and PuTTY<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>1. <span style=\"color: #000000;\">Open PuTTY.exe<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">2. In the Host Name box, enter the Public IP of your instance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">3. In the Category list, click on &#8220;<strong>+<\/strong>&#8221; to expand SSH<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">4. Click on Auth (don\u2019t expand it).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">5. In the Private Key file for authentication box, browse to the PPK file that you downloaded and double-click it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">6.
